I decided to celebrate my own birthday in my own way.

Don’t break the bank with these meaningful birthday ideas!

You owe it to yourself.

7 Meaningful Ways to Celebrate Your 22nd Birthday

1. Optimize your Life Dreams Journal.

What better way to celebrate your birthday than to look at your life objectively and make an effort to actually own your life? Now’s the time to really take some time off the hustle and bustle and evaluate your life.

Are you doing what you want to do right now?

If not, can you change that?

Do you know what you’re passionate in?

Feel free to dream on your ideal life.

But go out there and work on them as well.

Dreams don’t work unless you do.

2. Start working on your book.

Sigmund Freud once said that “All authors and writers are dreamers.” And I sincerely believe in this.

You’ve been telling everyone how you want to be the next J.K. Rowling or the next Bo Sanchez – why don’t you start working on your book now, then?

Your mother gave birth to you on your birthday.

Why don’t you give birth to your book on you birthday as well? It’s like inception! (Maybe not…I just really wanted to type that.)

Open your word processor. Start thinking of a book outline. Just type. Just write. Just let your mind free.

If you can dream, then you can write! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

3. Declutter your closet and give away stuff you don’t need to charity.

Giving back to the community is always a great thing, but don’t you think it’s greater when you’re doing it regularly for your birthday?

Think about it: instead of receiving (sometimes!) halfhearted gifts that you may not even like, you’re trying to make the world a better place by giving to the needy.

Give the gift of giving on your birthday.

4. Commit to give back regularly.

Pledge to organizations whose visions are worth supporting. Personally, I’ve started sponsoring a child from World Vision. (Her name is Lixine – I find it cute that we both have the same initial.)

Celebrate your birthday by helping someone in need. You don’t have to go all-out on this because I know you have a lot of expenses as well. But make an exception for today: it’s your birthday, remember?

Some organizations I care about are:

5. Cook your own pasta.

Yes, I did cook this one. Don’t judge me!

Cook pasta because its long noodles can help lengthen your life. (It’s an old Filipino belief and I know better than to be a cynic on my special day.) Also, let’s face it: cooking pasta is as easy as looking up the recipe on the Net!

Master the art of cooking by taking your time.

Buy fresh ingredients. Get the highest quality for the most cost-effective price.

Don’t rush. Today’s your day. Experiment with flavors!

You can cook whatever pasta you want with whatever sauce you want and your loved ones would just have to eat it (no questions asked!) because it’s your birthday.

6. Open an investment account.

Today, you turn a year older. This means that you’re getting nearer and nearer to your retirement age! Don’t you think it’s time for you to prepare for it?

Don’t wait until you can’t work anymore.

Don’t wait until you get a higher salary.

If your family depends on your income, you can even get an income continuation plus investment solution!

Don’t wait until your hair turns white and your joints become inflamed.

Seriously.

7. End the day with cake and tea.

Nothing says birthday more than a lovely cake. Do you even need me to elaborate on this?
