3 Things BDO Did To Show Their Reliability During COVID-19

Are you a BDO client?

If you are, then you may be happy to know that the bank did a lot of things during the pandemic to ease the burden of their customers.

In a way, the COVID-19 crisis has been an eye-opener for Filipinos. Personally speaking, it made me even more intentional with how I save, spend and allocate my money.

After all, no one could have predicted a large-scale pandemic like this to happen, so it’s always better to be safe than sorry, right?

The pandemic has been a wake-up call — a harsh slice of reality telling you to prioritize your health and well-being. (Until now, all my loved ones and I still drink multivitamins just to be cautious!)

The recent crisis also made us all realize the true nature of the politicians we voted, if they were helpful or not during the pandemic.

And it has also let us know which companies really cared enough for its customers to help them during their times of need.

How did BDO help during the pandemic?

Even though I closed my BDO ATM savings bank account a few years ago, I’m still happy to have had a BDO Gold credit card back in 2020, because I find BDO to be helpful during the COVID-19 crisis.

Here are 3 things they did to help Filipinos with their financial needs during the pandemic.

1. Payment Extension for 60 Days

During the Enhanced Community Quarantine announced to flatten the curve for COVID-19, other banks didn’t make any announcements about payment extensions.

It was frustrating to see, because others didn’t give way even though many Filipinos asked for help.

Other banks announced a 30-day payment extension.

BDO decided to take it one step further and announce a 60-day payment extension.

I considered this announcement as a sign of the company’s reliability. They know that because of the quarantine, a lot of people were strapped for cash, so they gave their customers a 2-month adjustment period to catch up.

Such a #MyBankyahinan move, don’t you think?

2. Safer way to bank with BDO Online Banking

While banks remained open to service the banking needs of clients amidst the enhanced community quarantine prevailing in Luzon, BDO Unibank encouraged the heightened use of online banking service to protect the public from the spread of the pandemic.

“We urge our online banking users to share and teach their family and friends how to sign up and use BDO Online Banking so they can bank safely from home,” the Bank said in a statement.

BDO has provided steps to guide its customers on how to sign-up for BDO online banking.

These are found on its official website www.bdo.com.ph. They also posted the instructions on their official Facebook page.

For those who are visual learners, you can follow their instructions via their BDO Youtube channel as well.

With BDO online banking, customers can perform transactions such as Send Money, Pay Bills, Reload and more.

When I still had a BDO ATM savings account, I often used BDO online so I could send money to my emergency fund bank account and investment accounts.

It also helped me when I needed to pay for my credit cards. Even before the pandemic happened, I was already paying my utility bills and credit card bills via online banking since I didn’t want to fall in line. 🙂

Apart from online banking, BDO’s network of ATMs and Cash Accept Machines is always available for cash withdrawal, bills payment and deposit. It’s very convenient, since you can do basic transactions without lining up in the bank branch anymore.

3. Option to lock cards online

I don’t know about you, but I’ve experienced credit card fraud with another bank before.

And it was super frustrating because it’s like a thief in the night — you won’t know what hit you.

One day, I decided to check my online account and I saw around ₱56,000+ debited from my credit card — these were purchases made from my account, purchases that I did not make!

“Oh no, this is credit card fraud,” I told myself. I needed to act. Fast.

In panic, I tried calling my bank’s hotline. It took me around 2 hours just to speak with an officer.

Imagine, 2 hours just to speak with an officer! While I was on hold, I was anxious because I kept thinking that the fraudster would continue using my credit card because the customer support was excruciatingly slow.

I mean, if they could spend ₱56,000 in just 1 hour, I shuddered to think about how much money they would steal in a span of 2 hours, di ba?

That’s why I’m thankful that BDO allows you to lock your credit card online. This way, no one can use your card while you’re settling your account and waiting for the results of the investigation.

If you usually use your credit card for online transactions, I strongly advise you to lock your cards when you know that you’re not going to use them for a while.

By locking your credit card, you’re sure that it won’t be used by bad people for credit card fraud.

Then, whenever you need to use your credit card again, you can just unlock it online. How convenient!

In addition to these, BDO Unibank also makes sure to protect the health of their employees by encouraging the customers to put their masks on when entering their branches.

And they don’t just advise the customers to put on their masks. Even when you’re inside the bank, you can’t take it off — and I liked this. After all, everyone needed to wear masks for the protection of all the people inside the establishment.

Considering that employees of banks like BDO are also considered front-liners during the COVID-19 crisis, I urge every reader of The Wise Living to kindly pray for these amazing individuals and give them the appreciation they rightfully deserve. 🙂
